About us

Officially Szentegyhaza was founded in 1938 by melting Szentkeresztbanya and Szentegyhazasfalu together, named in Romanian as Vlahita. Located by the Mount Hargita`s southern side859 meters over the sea level. This mountain city is the highest built in all Hargita county.

Founding the Metalwork in 1836, played a essential role in the city`s life by providing subsistence for the neighboring villages for the following generations. The metal works had its heydays during the years of communism when the country’s main industry vas the metalworking. By that time the number of workers was twice as many, giving great subsistence for them and their families. Evan the founding of the technical lyceum had the main purpose to teach and train professionals for the metalwork’s. Thanks to the factory in 1968, the village was upgraded to city.

With the collapsing of the communism the metalworking industry was on the down-grade, affecting the dramatic loss of workers, like in other sidelurgic cities, losing its lead role in the region.

The metalwork’s over 2000 workers created a strong social grid, with common leisure time events. The foundation of the Vasas Sportklub was one of the results of all this, getting its name from the Metal works. The purpose of it was to give an organized opportunity to play for the worker who enjoyed playing football. The team of the metal work played with weekly regularity with other local teams. The weekly training soon made it clear, the need for stepping higher, into the regional was reached, making name for themselves.

Even with the down-grade of the metal works, wearing the name Metalurgica Vlahita, the Vasas Sportklub stood its ground. During the 20yeasr after the downfall of the communism the players, coaches and owners were constantly changed, so the employees of the work are not playing in the club anymore, but they laid down a strong foundation for future players. Because of its strong basis the team which started as a bunch of football lover workers became the city`s official football team, as it is today.

The activities of the Vasas Sportklub

The increasing number of football fans and players in 2009 the name was changed to sport club which made it possible to organize the players to encounter other teams within and outside of Hargita county. Today this team has to stand his ground and make name for itself as a Hungarian team in a Romanian environment. Presently the Sport Club has 80 players in its arsenal.

In the 2013-2014 two Teams were launched into the championships conducted by the Hargita County Football Association. The first team in the IV. League reached great results in the previous five seasons taking the 2nd place. Unfortunately this result was not repeated in the last season.

The second team played in the V. league. They managed to reach their goal to stay within this league for the next season. This team is coached by a presently active player Gergely Tibor who started his career in our Club.

We also take care of the future players. The junior team, born between 2001 and 2005, take part in the regional championship as well, trained by a presently active player Szocs Robert who started his career in our Club We can be proud of our young players. During their encounter with 9 teams the toke the 6Th place.

We cannot forget our `old boys` either who play in Odorhei in the over 35 years league with bigger-smaller successes .It is an honor to see them play with all heart and soul, just like in the old glorious days. They are our role models showing us the `right way` not only on that green pitch.

It is fair to say, that our Club is active by all means.

The Vasas Sportklub today

Compared to the previous season, there was a step backwards, because our team in the IV league failed to join championship due to lack of funding, changing in the headboard and decreased number of the players. Many our players from the younger generations were forced to move, to play abroad and in neighboring cities, villages. Now our only representative in the county`s championship is the team in the V. league. They had an amassing start in this season, placing themselves to the top 5 in the competition.

The junior team is careening on with their campaign conducted for the 2002-2003 born kids. With each turn the improvement is clearly visible. The constant training has its results: the love for game and challenge is obvious in each mach an training session. Let’s not forget about the support of the parents, who’s effort makes it possible to drive the kids to different location throughout the whole season.

Unfortunately our financial support has dropped dramatically. Even the basic funds for functioning is creating allot of headache. Regardless of the financial problems there is still hope for our teams.
